Toru Takenaga

About

Toru Takenaga is a researcher based in Japan, specializing in infectious disease and vaccine development.

He began practicing tango in 2015 and founded the Kyoto Tango Club in 2016, after an initial attempt to start a tango society at Kyoto University. He regularly performs at both stage events and milongas, with appearances in cities including Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Fukuoka, and Seoul. He serves as a dancer with the KANSAI Tango Orquesta, performing as part of their regular ensemble.

Toru has trained in kendo since 1998. From 2004 to 2009, he lived in the UK and Ireland, where he continued his training and served as an assistant coach for the Ireland National Kendo Team. He currently holds a 6th dan in kendo and competes in national and local tournaments, including the All Japan Government and Public Sector Kendo Championship, as a member of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare Kendo Club.

He continues to pursue both scientific research and movement disciplines in parallel.
